ZINC contemporary is proud to present the first in a series of spring virtual exhibitions featuring the works by New York artist Gabe Brown. This show runs April 23rd - May 28th. Entitled INVISIBLE SUN, this collection builds upon Brown’s eternal search to find meaning in the unknown. Stricken with the sublimity of smoke filled skies and the awe inspiring sunsets they create, Brown’s energizing and colorful landscapes ponder what it means to be human in the face of nature.

Brown continues in the tradition of creating within decided parameters to delve deeply into this environment she conceives. Working on gessoed and stiffened linen mounted on panel, she scrapes and digs into the canvas. Her language of form can be seen as scaffolding or as tunnels and portals between worlds - a constant breaking up of shapes and structures. Created layer by layer the works hold a space of ethereality you can almost feel on your skin.

About the Artist:

Gabe Brown was born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in New York City. She currently lives on a lambing farm in the Hudson Valley and is an adjunct professor at Fordham University. She has a BFA from The Cooper Union - Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and an MFA in Painting from UC Davis.

Brown has been a resident and fellow at The Saltonstall Foundation, The Anderson Center and the Women’s Studio Workshop. Her paintings and works on paper have been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums such as Kenise Barnes Contemporary Art, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Butters Gallery, Matteawan Gallery, The Saratoga Arts Center, Garrison Arts Center, John Davis Gallery, ArtsWestchester, Schweinfurth Arts Center, SUNY Brockport, The Horticultural Society of New York, Albany International Airport, Sears-Peyton Gallery, and Carrie Haddad Gallery. She received the Sustainable Arts Foundation Award and was chosen to be one of two artists for a public arts project for ArtBridge. She has been a juror for Epic Epoch Residency in New York City, The Sustainable Arts Foundation, and has curated three exhibitions at KMOCA for their 2015 season. Gabe Brown is an Adjunct Professor in Painting and Drawing at Fordham University and SUNY New Paltz where she has received three Merit Awards for Professional Achievement. Gabe Brown lives and works in the Hudson Valley.
