Stephanie B. Chang is a professional fashion and commercial photographer based in New York City. Separate from her main line of work, she works on long-term conceptual projects exploring sensuality and psychological tension in the commonplace.

Project Title: 愛してる (Aishiteru)

Artist Statement

A few years ago, I started an intimate body of work titled, “Aishiteru”. I made photographs that traversed my personal memories of different partnerships throughout my womanhood. Although different relationships produce unique memories, we can often find familiar burdens that culminate in emotional turmoil. Burdens akin to past traumas, abuse, discord, or regret. Burdens that either hinder us or propel growth. In these photographs, I was forced to re-live and creatively articulate many of these acute fragments that have festered in my memories. Revisiting this work in recent days, is a reminder of how cruel yet painfully beautiful it is to let our hearts lead us.
