I’m interested in creating sculptures that highlight existing dualities and that disrupt the norm. Growing up in the shadows of Hollywood I was always aware of the cultural conflict of what is real and what is fake (what is not staged and what is for show), in other words, the spectacle. The disparity between these two colliding forces presently seeps into my work in the form of ambiguity of gender, unrealistic proportions and skewed perceptions. Through wrapping sculptures in fabric, sometimes leaving areas exposed, I intend to visualize these dualities and distortions—there is a sense of control, the viewer only has access to see what I want them to see.

I explore personal histories and the body’s ability to express narrative. The distortion of human figures serves as a platform within my work which highlights the individuality of each form and encourages the viewers personal introspection. Realism and abstraction intermingle, as do varying scales and proportions that, in turn, create a shift in perception. Figurative elements that verge on the surreal are employed to trigger memory and provide opportunities to discover stories that live within each piece to highlight the impact the body has on memory.
