Artist Statement

Essentially overwhelming daydreams, Chun’s work explores human fragility, womanhood, and how personal memory and trauma alter and color our perceptions of time. Jagged edges, awkward lines, imperfect shapes, layers of color and photographs intertwine, often reimagining a landscape space as a personal multiverse of memories and lost sensations upon a female figure. Silver gelatin prints, various paints, and drawing media build upon, play, and react to one another intuitively until a sanctuary is created to make space for these incongruous experiences for the subject. Emotive marks and often disruptive forms of paint to the figure and space allude to how memories of our past can involuntarily seep into our consciousness at any given moment and flood our state of mind.
