Artist Statement:
Born in 1978, Lisa Lee is an Australian -based fine artist, painting full-time whilst enjoying her role as a wife and mother. Lee’s figurative oil paintings often express social and emotive views with a strong, feminine sentiment, often underpinned with a quiet humour. Her oil paintings celebrate muliebrity and make visual commentary on many aspects of womanhood. Her delicate and detailed artworks are often large-scale and predominantly feature women in flamboyant, haute couture fashion, symbolising the melodrama and theatrics that often surface in everyday life. The use of floriography (symbolism behind flowers) also enhances her visual storytelling.
Spanning her 20 -year career, Lee’s artworks have been selected for inclusion in many major Australian national art awards, exhibited worldwide including London, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and feature in Australian public, private and corporate collections.
‘Women, we are strong, beautiful and multi -faceted creatures. Queens. We all have our own stories to tell and I love to highlight a woman’s inner strength in paint. Whether we are fuelled by our own girl- power or are simply inspired by the strength in others. Sisterhood is a worthy celebration. Throw in a lil bit of glam too…we can be both pretty and gritty!’
