Artist Statement:
Kingsley Otobo Chukwuma was born 0n August 23rd 1979 in Port Harcourt. A native of Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Rivers State, Nigeria. He studied at the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University, having majored in spatial planning and architectural design.
Essentially as a self-taught artist, he was able to bring forth a highly individualize methodology of his works from the beginning, as seen in the uniqueness of his style and the use of colors. This pattern is seen in his numerous acrylics, watercolors, and oil colors works.
His creative endeavors circumvent through drawing, painting, and art installation, spatial and architectural design. “Without the ability of conceptualization of ideas and technique, art would be incomplete”, So his style of art works emanates from a deliberate-conscious search to put meaning to a visual voyage that is embellished by both iconic writing and script of his ancestors Known as Insibidi, African textile design and a layering technique that gives depth to his paintings.
As an artist first and also an African, He has a deep interest in the multi-cultural heritage of various tribes that exists within each country that makes up the continent and he is also inspired by his immediate environment “Rivers State” the South-South of Nigeria his place of birth. As a Self-taught virtual artist, he is drawn to experimenting, a Conceptual mixed- media artist, and his deep interest in art is completely responsible for his creativity.
His original works can be found in many public and private collections across the country and abroad. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions with Society of Nigerian Art which he is a member.
