Statement & Bio:

Over the past two decades, I have been making art that questions our long held understandings of time, space, energy, and matter. With a focus on illustrating my vision of an alternative universe, images of curious plants and celestial sea flowers weave their way into my works through the use of collected paper ephemera and layered sketchbook drawings. As an artist who sees the process of creating art as non-linear, I find that I experience the past, present, future, and parallel lives of my work all simultaneously. I also find that simple everyday curiousness, physical mementos (such as photographs & paper ephemera I use in my work), and the history and images from past travels to be present every time I bring pen to paper. For when one speaks to me about my work and my creative process, I wish they could see it all--the beginnings, the unknowns, the forgotten, the lost, the joyous, the dreams, the future of the story that brought me to this exact place and time.

I am a 1996 graduate of Bennington College and received my MFA in 2005 from The School of Visual Arts, where I focused on the study of painting, drawing, and collage. I moved to Rhode Island in 2008, and currently work out of an antique and vintage paper-filled studio in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. I have collaborated with retail brands such as Anthropologie, Sheaffer Pens, and Alex & Ani, and worked in a variety of corporate and art education settings as a teacher, mentor, and curatorial advisor. My work was featured in this summer's group exhibition Floramatic at Freemarket Gallery in Atlanta, GA, and I recently launched a collection of works and branded materials in partnership with The Wayfinder Hotel Newport, RI.
