Statement

Inspired by the visible world I am immersed in, these paintings exist as both recognizable and highly rendered images while being countered by abstraction in color, pattern, and line. The sky is a celebrated subject throughout art history and in our own visual history. However, it is something that most of us unconsciously overlook without thought as to how it can create a stage upon which memories are formed. It is something we are all familiar with but seldom have the opportunity to study in its fleeting moments. It typically exists in our minds solely as long flashes of color and line. These paintings resonate in idealism as well as the sublime attempting to capture the sky in its multiple forms. There is highly recognizable imagery capturing the complexity of what the sky physically represents through its natural beauty, and while there are fields of color that exist as areas for both pause and reflection, they also represent space in which history can be lost and new content can be formed through our mind's eye.
