Artist Statement
This series of paintings is directly painted from screenshots I took and cropped. By painting screenshots, I create static and confrontational objects in physical space, unlike viewing on a screen, which is quite literally flattened and on the surface. The internet is a visual network, and representational choices are constantly being made by digital platforms on an innumerable amount of topics ranging from contentious to banal. I am interested in how platforms choose to represent often charged topics and ambivalences that occur when representing them.
