Bio

Fikayo Adebajo is a 22 year old photographer and visual artist based in London and brought up in Lagos. She is passionate about using visual mediums to present people of color, especially black women, through a three-dimensional lens. She tells stories that explore the full spectrum of the black emotive experience, creating space for existence outside the narrow confines of the marginalisation that seek to define. She is also a member of the Barbican’s Young Visual Artist Group, and has worked with organisations like Tate, The Photography Foundation, and Moleskine Foundation.

bLAck VENus

bLAck VENus imagines the birth of forms of representation within the fashion industry that celebrate the black female form and centre sensuality, intimacy, and community. In collaboration with Nami Swim, a sustainable black owned label, this series reconsiders who, what, and which bodies can be held up against the standards of “high fashion”. The traditional igbale brooms and silky fabrics against the luminescence of the blue pool speak to the tensions inherent within this drive to an alternative future. The final image asks us to draw back and consider the power structures lying behind the scenes.
