Bio

Evi Antonio’s art is a celebration of the intricate details of the natural world. She is driven by a desire to reveal details that might otherwise go unnoticed. The result is enlarged natural forms that create the same sense of curiosity and wonder that the museum specimen cabinets held at The Natural History Museum, in her early years of training, studying Scientific illustration at Middlesex University.

Evi paints digitally, using photoshop and a digital pen, applying the same level of detail and understanding as she did when she painted traditionally with watercolours, whilst working as a natural history illustrator.

“Digital painting techniques enable me to work in a much larger scale” explains Evi. “ The result is as if we see the subject under a magnifying glass; I want to evoke and share my sense of awe and wonder that these creatures and the natural world inspires within me. Evi combines her digital painting with hand finished and glazed prints, using the highest quality fine art paper in small editions or one-of-a-kind pieces.

Her fine art career really took off in 2012 when her artwork 'Jono's Lobster' was selected and hung in the 2012 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the edition sold out. Evi went on to exhibit her work both as a solo artist and in group shows all over the UK and Affordable Art Fairs. In 2016 Evi was awarded a prize for best artist, East of England with the National Open Art competition, was also was The Secret Art Prize runner up winner in 2018 with Curious Duke Gallery. Most recently, Evi was one of the winners of The Cult House Open Call 2019, in collaboration with Runway Gallery, which resulted in a successful exhibition in January 2020 at Blacks Club, Soho in London and representation with Runway Gallery. Evi lives and works between her home in Essex and London where she was born and originally grew up.

Statement

“Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better”.
Albert Einstein
A wise philosophy close to my artistic vision to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the natural world around them, see its hidden beauties and consider their worth in our ever fragile and vanishing ecosystems.
