Erin Titus’s paintings navigate domestic spaces and explore how our attitudes toward intimate spaces change over time. She is interested in mundane, everyday objects that are collected from habit, specifically, plastic shopping bags and other conveniences. Interested in the tactile and accessible nature these objects have in our lives, she creates packed compositions that repeat the notion of convenience. In the series This 60-Second Test Will Amaze You! small scale and inherent detail of everyday objects creates an intimacy that mirrors the memories created in physical spaces. Emphasizing the state of constant flux that exists between memory’s stability and past comforts, she turns the viewer into voyeur despite the space’s familiarity. Inspired by our interactions with nature, Titus finds stillness in navigating the generational lineage of the home. Erin Titus was born in Florida and is currently based in Tampa.
