Bio & Artist Statement
By way of an introduction, my name is Elisa Franceschi and I am a photographer from Italy living in London.
My projects focus predominantly on landscapes, showcasing the connection between people and places. During these projects, I have become increasingly interested in human geography. It helps me explore our emotional and subjective relationship to our surroundings, and this research is my theoretical inspiration.
I am particularly interested in liminal and unusual scenarios that create new perspectives of our surroundings. In my photographs, these settings become a metaphor for the anxiety that is characterized by the contemporary era, and the inhabitants’ frustration of the established confines in their search for other realities.
Art galleries and institutions where this project has been displayed: Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, Italy; MART (Modern Art Museum) in Rovereto, Italy; Biennale Giovani (The Young Artists Biennial), Villa Reale in Monza, Italy; Shortlisted for Full Contact at SCAN International Photography Festival in Tarragona, Spain.
Alongside my photography projects, I work as a commercial photographer and as a retoucher. My retouching skills have inspired new ways to manipulate images digitally, and since 2020 I have been experimenting with Cinema 4D software mixing 3D landscapes and photography.
