Artist statement:
I am a Brazilian artist from Rio de Janeiro, currently living in New York, where I came to pursue my Masters at the School of Visual Arts. Coming from Brazil, I believe my sense of creativity tends to come from the art of improvisation. We may not have so many resources as a more developed country, but we do have a great sense of originality to solve issues and tell stories. Challenges are essential to my growth, hence the commitment to diverse mediums and techniques. Whether it is a metal etching, lithography, ceramics, ink on paper, digital illustrations, or stop motions, I am always on a drive to create a little world of my own.
In my latest project, “Everything Works in America,” I explored urban American culture from a Brazilian perspective. Among the simplest forms and labels of American and Brazilian products lie subtle comparisons of society and consumerism. In a way, we are what we consume, and a country is what it demands to consume.
