Amanda Yamashita is a fiber artist who creates massive sculptures and installations. She was born in Laguna Beach, CA and is a graduate of Biola University where she earned her BFA in studio art.
During her undergraduate career, she worked in Los Angeles and New York City, gaining experience and exposure to the art world. She has since been recognized for her contemporary use of fibers and has participated in many group shows throughout the nation.
Statement
The plush, tangible sculptures I create hold a unique physicality. Each individual form alludes to the body and is repeated to create a mass that gestures toward expansion and transformation. They are internal investigations with external bodies. By draping carelessly from the ceiling, the work stands in your way- seemingly delicate, but so massive that it demands your attention.
