Create! Magazine is pleased to share the announcement of a new solo exhibition by Jemima Murphy at 54 The Gallery running Jan. 10-16th, 2022. ‘Into Euphoria’ is a collection of new paintings that explores an imaginary world. Inspired by the beauty of nature, the works here address a myriad of existential themes, from the inescapable enchantment of memory and desire to the sensuality of love and the tribulations of loss. In these colorful dreamscapes, perception is an expression of our most primal emotions. Figures of intense desire traverse a vast unruly wilderness, always searching for exaltation but often finding anguish. Though evidently surreal, every vista and view relates to an actual location. These paintings are imagined renderings of real places, places where immense feelings settled on beautiful sights.

About the artist:

Jemima is a painter from the New Forest. Born into a large artistic family and inspired by the art and ceramics around her, she started painting at a young age. Jemima went on to study Russian at the University of Bristol and had a particular interest in historical and cultural movements. She spent a year in St Petersburg where she took a term at Repin Institute of Arts. She then went on to complete conservatory training at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Alongside her painting, she started her own theatre company, First Floor Presents, and has produced and acted in many successful off west-end shows. She has always worked closely with her set designers and graphic designers as a creative director in all of her productions.

She had a successful 2021 solo show called ‘Wild Things’ in London and has previously exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair Battersea, among other contemporary and fine art fairs. Inspired by Fauvism, Jemima creates and reimagines nature in vivid scenes with bright colors and dynamic compositions.
