Statement

Jill Smith is an artist currently based in London, Ontario. She blends illustrative motifs and abstract, organic shapes to produce imagery that explore our relationship to our constructed, and decorated environments. She works with an aesthetic that creates new spatial and figurative illusions that reference our domestic surroundings. Pastels, forms, and patterns are combined within Smith’s screen prints and sculptures to develop whimsical arrangements that often allude to a still life, as well as tapestries and wall paper. Smith’s work stimulates the imagination by translating space and asking the viewer to reconsider his/her personal environments.
